SMARTGov Community - SMARTGov Community

Paladin welcomes another former Black Bear PTWin customer conversion to the SMARTGov product family

Poulsbo, WA, April 30, 2013 – Paladin Data Systems Corporation announced today Sunny Isles Beach, Florida as its newest customer to sign on to use SMARTGov software, Paladin’s community development software that provides permitting and code enforcement management for jurisdictions.

Sunny Isles Beach has contracted with Paladin Data Systems to migrate all of their PTWin data into SMARTGov, preserving their legacy information and all of their current business processes in an easy to manage, secure, cloud-based application.

“We are thrilled to announce our newest Florida customer for SMARTGov software is the City of Sunny Isles Beach. We welcome Sunny Isles Beach to the growing list Florida municipalities making the move to SMARTGov technology from Black Bear PTWin.” said Jon Byrd, a Paladin Sales Executive.

Sunny Isles Beach previously used PTWin software, which is no longer supported. Paladin Data Systems recently purchased the source code for Black Bear PTWin when the company went out of business. As a result Paladin can migrate PTWin data better than anyone else in the business which will be done for Sunny Isles Beach at no cost.

“The City of Sunny Isles Beach’s Community Development Department decided to purchase SmartGov to replace our unsupported and aging Black Bear system. We are greatly looking forward to the myriad of additional benefits we will get from upgrading to SmartGov, especially consolidation of multiple databases, automation of tasks currently done manually, on-line citizen portal, electronic plan review, and inclusion of our GIS and map data. A cloud-hosted solution will also improve system reliability and up time. Our citizens will benefit from a more streamlined business process, and our staff will benefit from a robust enterprise system,” said Clayton Parker, Chief Building Official at Sunny Isles Beach.

SMARTGov Community - SMARTGov Community

City of Bremerton, Paladin ILS customer since 2007, converting to Paladin’s SMARTGov community development software

Poulsbo, WA – March 28, 2013 –Paladin Data Systems announced today that the City of Bremerton, WA will be converting from Paladin’s Interlocking Software to their SMARTGov community development software product.

City of Bremerton has utilized Paladin’s InterLocking Software in their Codes and Building departments since 2007. They are now in process of migrating all of their InterLocking Software data and configuration over to Paladin’s newer technology, SMARTGov for improved efficiencies and greater service levels to the public.

“We are thrilled to bring Bremerton onto the SMARTGov system. As longtime partners with the City of Bremerton, we know their processes and needs very well and this conversion will allow additional city departments to utilize the system and initiate internal process improvements for many years to come in this community,” said Jon Byrd, Paladin Data Systems Sales Executive.

SMARTGov cloud-based deployment includes three separate instances for production, training, and support. SMARTGov is built in SQL server with .NET and C++ which seems to be a more comfortable and familiar database and software architecture for local government IT departments.

“Bremerton is moving to SmartGov to stay current with today’s ever-changing technology. SmartGov will allow us to provide better service to our customers by integrating permitting functions across departments and giving the public access through multiple contact choices,” said Janet Lunceford, Code Compliance Officer, City of Bremerton.

“SMARTGov is a new type of product for Paladin. In broad terms it is similar to our InterLocking Software in that both systems tracking and manage permits, code enforcement, planning actions, inspections, and licenses. But it is really quite different in the underlying technology, GIS integration, cloud optimization, self-service features, automated back-up and disaster recovery protocols, and on-demand extraction jobs,” said Byrd

About SMARTGov
SMARTGov is a software program authored by Paladin Data Systems. It is an expert system that supports community development functions for permitting, planning, inspections, code enforcement, licenses, fees, parcels, contractors and many others. SMARTGov is customizable, flexible, and interactive. It alerts you of problems, manages workflow, and prioritizes your projects. It can run on your servers or in the cloud as a service, and gives both your citizens and staff access to project data on the web 24/7.

SMARTGov Community - SMARTGov Community

Paladin welcomes another former Black Bear PTWin customer conversion to the SMARTGov product family

Poulsbo, WA (PRWEB) March 29, 2013

Paladin Data Systems Corporation announced today East Whiteland Township, Pennsylvania as its newest customer to convert from Black Bear’s PTWin permitting software to SMARTGov, Paladin’s community development software that provides permitting and code enforcement management for jurisdictions.

East Whiteland Township has contracted with Paladin Data Systems to migrate all of their PTWin data into SMARTGov, preserving their legacy information and all of their current business processes in an easy to manage, secure, cloud-based application.

“We are very excited to welcome East Whiteland Township into our SMARTGov family. This is our first Pennsylvania customer and we foresee a number of additional Pennsylvania jurisdictions following East Whiteland’s lead. SMARTGov is a great fit for their business processes and we will be delivering additional features which were never available in PTWin, such as embedded GIS mapping and public portal access, which East Whiteland can add in the future.” said Jon Byrd, a Paladin Sales Executive.

East Whiteland Township, PA has used Black Bear’s PTWin permitting software for a number of years. However, the software became unsupported when Black Bear went out of business in late 2010. PTWin is built on an outdated Paradox database making the data more vulnerable to data corruption and obsolescence with modern operating systems.

“We purchased SMARTGov software because our present software is out of date and no longer supported. Paladin Data Systems was able to import all of our previous records into SMARTGov, which was important as it consisted of 16 years worth of information. The implementation staff at Paladin and SMARTGov were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable in making the switchover much less stressful than it could have been,” said Latta White, Deputy Fire Marshal/Inspector at East Whiteland Township.

SMARTGov Community - SMARTGov Community

SaaS-based software improves disaster recovery, uptime, and speed with AWS

Poulsbo, WA – February 14, 2013 – Paladin Data Systems Corporation announced today the migration of its cloud-based software product, SMARTGov to Amazon’s Web Services (AWS). The move to AWS will allow SMARTGov to more efficiently deploy all aspects of software maintenance including regular enhancements, hot fixes, DBA, real time back-ups, and disaster recovery procedures, all with a 99% availability guarantee.

“For our jurisdiction clients, reliability is a paramount concern and with Amazon’s Web Services they can be assured that all SMARTGov database administration is being performed behind the scenes in real time and they no longer have to worry about creating system backup files and managing disaster recovery protocols,” SMARTGov Business Development Manager, Jonathan Byrd said.

SMARTGov is able to leverage a number of Amazon’s Web Services solutions to reduce costs, which are passed on to the customer and improve disaster contingency plans. With Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud, known as EC2, SMARTGov is able to scale and align its SaaS responsiveness to its customer’s demands throughout the day. Leveraging Amazon’s S3 services, allows SMARTGov SaaS customers to have quicker downloads and more secure access to their file attachments. Amazon’s S3 file storage service is the same infrastructure that runs Amazon’s own global network of websites.

SMARTGov SaaS infrastructure is monitored by using Amazon’s Cloudwatch services, which allows Paladindata to take advantage of better monitoring tools for SaaS customers and quickly respond if the need to move over to fail over datacenters or zones become necessary. In addition, the ability to rapidly deploy maintenance releases helps keep SMARTGov relevant in the ever changing Permitting software world. These features allows Paladin Data Systems avoid any long term downtime which could adversely impact its SMARTGov SaaS customers.

About SMARTGov
SMARTGov is designed to help community development and building departments operate more efficiently and includes solutions for managing the permitting process, manage citizen requests and code enforcement actions, limited building inspections, licensing, a public portal, and a GIS mapping system which integrates with other GIS systems.

“It’s a way bigger deal than we imagined,” said Community Development Director John Hohman. No longer do employees have to maintain multiple databases to try to track permit applications. It’s not just new software but a whole new way of doing business, Hohman said.

PORT ORCHARD — To get development permits out the door faster, Kitsap County planners are turning to new computerized tracking systems and systematic procedures.

Customer service is the name of the game for much of his department, says Larry Keeton, director of the Kitsap County Department of Community Development. Keeton says he wants to maintain high standards for building and development, but he wants his staff to be helpful, not a hindrance.

“When you look at the importance of the building industry, we recognize it,” Keeton said. “We cannot be the bottleneck that precludes people from getting jobs.”

We’ve made an in-depth study of Black Bear products and data structures. We’ve also welcomed a number of former Black Bear employees into the Paladin family. As a result, we know how to migrate your data and train your users more efficiently and effectively than any other company. In fact, we know Black Bear’s system so well we’ll migrate your Black Bear data to SMARTGov Community® for FREE!

Paladin Data Systems is uniquely qualified to help you through the transition. Not only does Paladin Data Systems move your Black Bear permitting data into SMARTGov Community easily but we move ALL of your data. In addition, PTWin32 tracked detailed permit information concerning your plan reviews, conditions, time records, etc. We bring ALL your data over, not just some of it, so you don’t lose any of the information you currently have in PTWin32.

Paladin Data Systems has already converted a number of Black Bear customers to our SMARTGov Community software, a program that far exceeds the aged functionality of your PTWin32 product. Our state-of-the-art systems represent a quantum leap in usability and reliability, and are affordably priced for jurisdictions both large and small.

Display permitting and code enforcement visually.

We’ve seen plenty of parcel legal descriptions that are more than a thousand words so perhaps it’s time to give the old adage a cost-of-living increase. How about, a picture is worth two thousand words? Although when it comes to jurisdictional mapping we suspect the value is much higher.

As a local government official you spend a lot of time explaining things to applicants, citizens, contractors, councilmen, and co-workers. So much so that it sometimes interferes with your other work. It would be great if you could just pull up street maps and aerial photography of your jurisdiction that showed groups of records plotted with color coded bullets representing status, or if you could just draw and annotate maps to be saved and used in presentations.

If you have a GIS system at your jurisdiction this is theoretically possible. But in practice, access, querying, and configuring the proper layers often makes it impractical for ad hoc presentation. What you need is a GIS mapping system integrated into your permitting and code enforcement software that would allow you to quickly create the needed visuals.

SMARTGov Community by Paladin Data Systems is that software. It manages all of your permitting, planning, inspection, and code enforcement needs while providing integrated GIS functionality at no extra cost. The software displays a variety of lists or tables that allow you to easily query specific records according to complex criteria. Once the records you want are displayed in the list, they can be instantly plotted on a map of your jurisdiction with a single click. Each marker on the map contains thumbnail information about that particular project, parcel, and applicant.

SMARTGov Community comes with two GIS layers already built in, street map and aerial, but you can add as many other layers as you like. For example, if you got a shape file of your parcels from another GIS they could be imported to SMARTGov Community’s GIS. Then you could create permits and code enforcement records directly from the map.

Analyze building patterns and high violation areas, then draw on and annotate the map and save it to be used in presentations. Incorporating maps into your day-to-day operations will promote a quicker understanding between all parties and lead to informed decisions. Change the way you look at your jurisdiction. Contact Paladin Data Systems for more information on SMARTGov Community today.
