Skamania County, WA
Converted from PTWin to SMARTGov
Background
As a small rural county in Washington State with limited resources and small consolidated departments, Skamania County was looking for a user-friendly permitting software solution to replace Black Bear’s PTWin system that could be easily implemented. The jurisdiction had spent a considerable amount of time and resources into developing PTWin and did not want to lose its investment in their data and system configuration.
Opportunity
After the dissolution of the Black Bear Systems software company, Skamania County began the process of researching software solutions to replace PTWin. During the evaluation the county evaluated software other jurisdictions in the State of Washington were using, what they were using it for, and how satisfied they were with their software. Pricing was a significant consideration as well as having the software remotely hosted in the Cloud. They found both in Paladin Data Systems as well as the extensive experience working with and porting data from PTWin.
Solution
During implementation of the SMARTGov system and Public Portal, the SMARTGov team provided guidance and support in creating a new process and system to meet Skamania County’s expanded needs. With limited server space and the added costs associated with an onsite server; including licensing, back-ups, and on-going maintenance, the Cloud-based SMARTGov solution provides an important cost savings measure for the county.
Results
With all inter-departmental communication done through the SMARTGov system, Skamania County has realized paperwork, cost, and time efficiencies.
“User friendly, manageable, and efficient, the SMARTGov software has allowed us to successfully implement streamlined and efficient; permit processing at a time when resources (staff, time, and funding) are strained and customer satisfaction is a priority.”
